Fiddler

Fiddler is a proxy server that can run locally to allow application debugging and control of data in transit. Among other things, it allows you to check the HTTPS traffic and work in man-in-the-middle mode, as well as being able to record the passing HTTP and HTTPS traffic. It also allows to evaluate the "weight" of applications and Web pages on the network.

CurrPorts is an utiity that shows in real time all open TCP/UDP ports on the machine where it's ran. It can be used as a part of a troubleshooting process, as it can identify all processes, with several related information, that are connecting towards and from the machine.

MailPass View is a tool that can retrieve and show passwords saved into main email clients, like Outlook, Thunderbird and Windows Live Mail. Once extracted, they can be exported to a text file.

Windows Sysinternals

 

The Windows Sysinternal Suite is a set of tools which technicians can use in order to diagnose issues, to fix problems related to network, system or hard disks and to gather detailed information about the host. One of the most known utilities is Autoruns, which identifies what programs are configured to startup automatically when your system boots and you login

Capsa Free Network Analyzer

Capsa Free Network Analyzer is a network analysis tool that allows to monitor network traffic and diagnose problems. It has an interface that resembles the one of Microsoft Office and it doesn’t have any usage limitations in its free editions, however it requires the licence code which is provided after the online registration.

Wireshark

 

Wireshark is a network traffic analysis tool, probably the most known and used, and it’s a de-facto standard in the pro and educational spheres. Wireshark can be used to analyze and filter data and packets, and powerful in-depth analysis and graphical plotting tools are available as well.

Xirrus Wifi Inspector

Xirrus Wifi Inspector is a tool for the management of Wi-fi networks, very useful to identify and monitor wireless networks. The dashboard allows to visualize all identified networsk, the power in that precise site, transmission channel, SSID, security protocol being used, etc..

Additional tool are available, like monitoring with time graphic of a certain connection, speed test and quality test, and also a test for the control of the correct functioning of the connection with the Internet.

Advanced IP Scanner

Advanced IP Scanner is a free tool to scan LAN networks which provides a complete list of devices on the network with hostiname, IP and MAC addresses, hardware manufacturer and state.
Additional features include connecting to an FTP server, launching SSH and RDP sessions and remote power-off of pheriperals that support such feature.

TreeSize Free

TreeZise Free is a tool that analyzes space on disk. It can scan the whole system and show in a clear and schematic way the disk's usage level, from a volume perspective up to single folders. Mapped network units and Cloud-synchronized shares can be scanned in the Free version, too.

htop v2

Htop is the evoluted version of the top command. This tool offers a complete real-time monitoring of the system's active processes, also allowing interaction with them (sorting, research, terminate, etc). The original aspect of the top tool has been renewed and now the interface shows a graphical representation of the resources in use.

Htop is available for Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD and Mac OS X.

OVFtool

Ovftool is a command line tool that allows the direct copy of virtual machines on ESXi hosts even if no shared storage is available. With the tool you can, in general, import and export OVF packages among VMware products and you just need to indicate the source and destination host, with related administrative credentials.

YUMI

YUMI (Your Universal Multiboot Integrator) is a free tool for the creation of bootable USB pendrives, also in multiboot mode thanks to the GRUB bootloader.

Once executed, YUMI allows to create a bootable USB drive from a local ISO image or from a direct download (after choosing it from the dedicated dropdown menu) or the needed Linux distro.

Veeam Endpoint Backup

Veeam Endpoint Backup is the free backup desktop and notebook solution by Veeam. It supports backups on a volume level and on a file level, in addition to granular of complete restores. You can even schedule backups job; the current version is v1.1, which supports Windows 10.

ESXi Embedded Host Client

ESXi Embedded Host Client is a tool for Web management of ESXi hosts, even the free version and without vCenter. ESXi Host Client can be easily installed via SSH on the ESXi host to control and offers a Web Client complete with all the features available with the classic Windows vSphere Client.

It can be very handy in those situations when there is the need to manage an ESXi host on a non-Windows client; it's a recent project with an on-going development, several bugs have been identified on ESXi 5.0 and 5.5
